“It was one of those April days, where the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold, when it is summer in the light and winter in the shade”
We all know the feeling of getting caught up in our everyday lives. We rush from place to place, sleep late and wake early, and often forget to take a minute for ourselves to catch a breath. We keep on running, start to feel overwhelmed and eventually lose sight of the beauty that everyday carries, as it gets buried underneath all our responsibilities.
Each day deserves appreciation. It deserves your full and utter attention, your willingness to give your best and finally your eagerness to approach tomorrow. However, this can be difficult, especially when we have a stressful job or are caught up in school or university studies. We forget to make each day a lasting memory, and often just hope for time to go by faster. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve too had days where I just could not wait for the calendar to switch to the proceeding day. I know that not everyday is good, but try to find the good in everyday.
In order to open your mind to receiving the good vibes of a day, stop and take a breath from time to time. And what better way is there than escaping for a little while?
My family and I took a trip all the way to the Northern Sea over Easter Break. We first flew to Hamburg, where we spent a night, in order to be fit for driving to our final destination the next day – St. Peter Ording. St. Peter Ording is a municipality in the district of Nordfriesland in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.
What a mind-blowing place (literally!). With miles of beach and sky ahead of you, it feels easy to leave the city behind and finally see beyond everything you’ve been dealing with lately. You start to feel light, can finally get rid of anything that’s been occupying your mind – even if just for a little while. And most importantly – you can breathe! The wind that’s blowing through your hair also blows through your mind; it has somewhat of a psychological magic to it. A cleanse.
What further supports this “natural therapy” is of course the place you stay in during the time of your weekend-getaway. We stayed in a wonderful hotel only a few steps away from the beach, called “Zweite Heimat” (“Second home”). It surely felt like a second home to us!
The staff was extremely friendly and courteous and the rooms were very spacious. As we were practically at sea, the weather changed by the minute. One moment the sun was warming our skins, the next we found ourselves soaking from head to toe. But even in that case, the hotel had a wonderful spa where we could warm up.
The hotel also offered a bike-rental. Of course my sisters and I would not say no to that! St. Peter-Ording is very bike-friendly, with many different paths through fields, in the forest or along the coast. It felt good to let go, and let yourself be carried by something else for a while.
As always, a holiday experience is only half as good without amazing food and drinks. Two of our three evenings, we dined in our hotel, which was absolutely delicious. On our second night, we ate at a restaurant called “Am Kamin”. The atmosphere was very homy and comfortable at this place as well. Drinks are best taken at the “Beach Motel” and for those who still want to dance the night away, “Gosh” is open every Saturday for free!
Allow yourself time to calm down and channel your concentration on what is happening on this very day in your life. Refuel new energy and fill your life with new positivity! Taking a few days off from time to time can do wonders and avoid disasters. Further, creating lasting memories with your loved ones strengthens your bond and brings you closer! This also has a positive, lasting effect upon return.
Let the wind blow through your mind, get carried away and consider different perspectives on your current tasks at home. Sometimes, distance helps us to gather new ideas that can be really useful to the outcome of a certain project. Not having to have control all the time soothes your soul, and just lets things happen as they do. Go any way the wind takes you and remember to enjoy it.
Love,
Joana
