You’re always one decision away from a totally different life
Decisions are nothing more than a ticket to the next stage in our lives. They signify something similar to a crossroad, where we can either go right, left, or remain straight. Whichever path we choose, it has the potential to change our lives as whole. However, it always has a cost. We make the decision to do one thing, and lose the opportunity to do the other. When asked what one of their weaknesses is, many people answer that they are bad at making decisions. Perhaps because they are afraid of taking the wrong decision, so they lose the courage to potentially make the right one. We sometimes find the thought of trading in one aspect of our lives for another challenging. We are afraid of change, and we start to consider all the possible negative consequences, which weigh down the positive outcomes. This often results in missed chances, which we later on regret.
New opportunities can appear in any aspect of our lives and at any given time. May this be a new job offer, the chance to move to a new city or country or simply being asked out on a date. Do you ever think back and realise that if you hadn’t said yes to this one opportunity, that your life would have taken a completely different path? A big part of mine and my family’s life has been influenced by decisions like these. It was saying yes to a job offer, yes to moving to a new country and yes to a new life.
Some opportunities come around more than once, but some only do once in a lifetime. When having to make a decision of any sort, we always choose the option that we think is best at that specific time. We choose at the best of our ability and current knowledge, and thus, looking back, we might consider it to have been the wrong decision. But we always have to remember that back then, it seemed like the right thing to do. Never regret past decisions, because they brought you to where you are at this very moment in your life. If you are unhappy with the outcome of your decision, you always have the chance to change. Only regret the opportunities that you were afraid to follow, as those are the doors that will forever remain closed to you.
Life never comes as planned. It consists of coincidences and random incidents, which lead us to experience extraordinary and magical things, see the most wonderful places and encounter lasting friendships and love. These are the things that give our lives meaning and purpose. We are always one decision away from a completely different path, and it is up to us to shape the journey that we follow a life long. Don’t be afraid of unlocking new doors and keep your eyes open for the keys that open way to unimaginable opportunities.
